Hylink Los Angeles: Office Snapshot
Culture Sep 28, 2016
Hylink Digital just opened its first US office, which is now their global headquarters in Los Angeles, California.
With this being what it is, a new North America office, it's still somewhat of an enigma figuring out what to do with this 4500 square feet blank canvas. The team does know that the canvas will be earned, explored and further expanded - culturally and creatively - in due time.
The location couldn’t be more important as Chinese cultural practices were at play. Geographic location, the way in which the office was positioned was a major detail in the decision-making. Humphrey Ho, who is heading up the US office, added:
“We wanted to find a recognizable building in a very recognizable region. Santa Monica’s Clock Tower has been in existence for over eight decades, so we knew that aspect was covered. The way our office faced was also important. In the front, we have views of the Pacific Ocean, and across that ocean, we are in a direct position to China. In Chinese philosophy of feng shui, water in abundance symbolizes steady streams of fortune. Our backs are to a bustling street and the Hollywood Hills, maintaining a good flow of energy, which alludes to wealth and luck. The Clock Tower is also right at the crossroads of Route 66 and Highway 1. It’s basically at the beginning of two roads that fueled the American economy for years and years."
The design direction could be best summarized as: a sophisticated, contemporary look that's clean and cozy all at once. This also entailed keeping the spirit of the space - the old, exposed brick columns and concrete walls, all have their own story to tell. Open workstations allow for conversation and promote collaboration, which also means easy flexibility when new team members trickle in. Huddle spaces and meeting rooms allow employees to mesh in their own way, at their own leisure.
